The cello pub has been a very popular returning concert since the beginning of this festival. This is the rare occasion to put Grieg, Metallica and Queen on the same program – all performed by cello ensemble! This year the folk music theme will be dominant also in the pub, with contribution from Lofoten Cello Duo and a première of a World Music Suite composed by Håvard Enstad.

Lofoten Cello Duo focuses on folk music mainly from Scandinavia and Balkan. They make their own arrangements of traditional folk tunes and create a unique sound as both players are also singing. Their first album Lynx was released in 2016 and is a collection of Scandinavian and Catalan folk music.
Eilertsen Band is releasing their debut album Fly my Cool in collaboration with Cellolyd and Lofoten Cello Duo. The band has a huge fan base in the region, and with their own unique expression and way of combining North Norwegian folk music with groovy jazz this will be a concert to remember!
Tine Surel Lange (b. 1989) is a Norwegian composer, sound artist and performer – based in Eggum, Lofoten Islands, Norway – with background from the Norwegian Academy of Music, The Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, Sonic College (DK) and the Royal Danish Academy of Music.
She is working with the surrounding world both thematic and as material and her works range from experimental chamber music to electro acoustic pieces (live electronics, soundscape composition, installation, ambisonics) to performances and audiovisual works. She belongs to a new generation of artists and composers who work with 3D audio, immersive and surrounding sound.
The theme of the festival this year is traditional folk music. In this classical concert, we are presenting music from two composers who were highly influenced by the folk music of their respective countries. Both Edvard Grieg of Norway and Belà Bartok of Hungary collected folk music and wrote it down directly, as well as adapting it and using it as an inspiration when writing music in a classical format. This clearly shows in the pieces we are presenting in our own arrangements for cello ensemble; Romanian Folk Dances (Sz 56) by Bartok and Melodies for strings by Grieg. We will also present some beautiful folk music from Lofoten arranged for us by Brita Falch Leutert.
The second part of the concert is dedicated to the renowned Norwegian folk musician Gjermund Larsen. As a virtuoso performer of folk music himself his music brings the cross-over between folk music and classical music to the next level. He has worked a lot with string orchestra before, but this will be the first time he is performing with a cello ensemble.
